Spring Is Coming: Finding Hope in Hard Seasons
Reflection on Joel 2:22
Witnessing God’s Provision in the Changing Seasons
As we enter the spring season and I witness the flowers blooming and the trees turning a vibrant green, I’m reminded of God’s faithful provision in our lives.
After a dark, cold, and weary winter, we finally get to see God’s behind-the-scenes work come to light.
During the winter months, I often find myself caught up in how cold, gloomy, and honestly, how heavy the season feels. There’s not much I enjoy doing outdoors when it’s cold; I’m definitely not an adventurous winter person. Even though my birthday falls in January, I grew up on the warm, sunny island of Cuba—so winter has never truly felt like home to me.
I much prefer staying cozy indoors, wrapped in warmth, waiting for the seasons to change.
During winter, I’m usually not thinking about what’s happening beneath the surface. I’m not seeing the bigger picture—the purpose behind the cold, or what God might be preparing on the other side of it.
But the truth remains: spring is coming.
Flowers will bloom. Warm weather will return. And the hardships of winter are part of God’s preparation for the flourishing to come.

When It Feels Like Winter Will Never End
In my own life, there have been seasons where darkness seemed to take over—times when depression, comparison, and a deep feeling of lack of purpose seemed impossible to overcome. I would look at everyone else’s journey and wonder why I felt so stuck. In those moments, it was hard to believe anything good could come from the season I was in.
It felt endless—like winter lingering long after spring was supposed to begin.
But even when I couldn’t see it, God was working.
Staying rooted in His Word daily reminded me of His truth—that I am loved, chosen, and created for a purpose greater than my current struggle.
Seeking prayer from my women’s group and staying connected to my church helped lift the weight I couldn’t carry on my own.
Slowly, I started to see new life in areas that once felt dead—especially in my relationships. My marriage, which had been weighed down by the heaviness I carried during my depression, began to feel lighter again. Moments of connection that once felt strained slowly started to heal. God was softening my heart, rebuilding trust, and restoring joy where discouragement had taken root.
My heart was beginning to bloom again—and so were the relationships I once feared had withered.
Sometimes winters feel prolonged. Even when the calendar says spring has begun, the cold can still linger. But that doesn’t stop the flowers from blooming.
Deep within, they know: the season has changed, even if it doesn’t immediately feel like it.
Change is coming.
God’s Encouragement in Joel 2:22
In Joel 2:22, God gives a beautiful reminder not only to His people but even to the wild animals:
“Don’t be afraid, wild animals, for the wilderness pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and grapevine yield their riches.”
(Joel 2:22, CSB)
This verse encourages me because often we need those words spoken over our hearts: “Don’t be afraid.”
Even when it feels like the hard season isn’t over, if you look closely, you’ll see signs of God’s goodness all around:
The pastures are turning green. The trees are bearing fruit.
There is life, abundance, and riches already in bloom.
When we refocus on the goodness of God, we can better witness the work He is doing—even in the hardest seasons.
A Few Ways to Apply This Today
1. Name the Signs of Growth
When you’re in a hard season, it can feel like nothing good is happening.
But there are always small signs if you look closely.
For me, it looked like small encouragements—an unexpected text from a friend, tiny breakthroughs, or simply the strength to get up and try again.
Reflection Question:
What small signs of God’s faithfulness can you notice in your life today, even if they seem tiny?2. Let Go of Fear
2. Let Go of Fear
Fear convinces us that we’ll always be stuck, but growth often begins when we loosen our grip on fear.
I had to release the fear that I would never find purpose or joy again, even when nothing had changed yet on the outside.
Choosing to trust God’s unseen work was the first step toward healing.
Reflection Question:
Is there a fear you can surrender to God today, trusting that new life is already beginning beneath the surface?
3. Stay Rooted in God’s Word
When my thoughts were heavy with comparison and hopelessness, reading God’s Word reminded me who I really am.
Making it a habit—even if it was just a few verses a day—shifted my mindset and gave me new strength.
Reflection Question:
What one Scripture can you hold onto this week to stay anchored in truth during your season of waiting?
4. Stay Connected to Community
Isolation deepens discouragement.
Being part of a women’s group that prayed with me and staying planted in church helped me find support and hope when I felt alone.
Sometimes God sends people into our lives as living reminders of His love.
Reflection Question:
Who can you reach out to this week for encouragement, prayer, or simply connection?
A Final Word of Encouragement
If you find yourself still in a winter season today, I hope you’ll remember this:
God is already at work behind the scenes.
You are not forgotten.
You are not alone.
The pastures are turning green. The trees are bearing fruit.
Even if it doesn’t feel like it yet, spring is coming.
Hold onto hope.
Keep your eyes open for the small signs of new life He is growing in you.
And most of all—don’t be afraid.
God is faithful in every season.
With Love and Grace,
